Here is a take… I want the players to care. Not asking for a lot but we also know not all of these guys do. Say whatever you want about Chris Sale but all I know is that guy cares. We all know that guy that doesn’t care. He is not trashing a minor league dugout because of a bad rehab start.
That video has caught the attention of many. Rightfully so. However, does anybody ACTUALLY care? The Red Sox don’t and you shouldn’t either. Maybe this is just the internet era we live in but it’s surprising how big of a story this has become.
“That’s who he is,” said Bloom, who went on to compare Sale and former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz. “There are plenty of guys, including somebody we all love who is going into Cooperstown later this month, who has been caught on tape doing stuff like that when they’re frustrated during a ballgame. It happens, it probably happens more than people think and with guys that you might never suspect.
“So it’s never something that we condone, but there’s a lot of passion in this game and when you have someone who holds himself to as high a standard as Chris does and who cares as much as he does, sometimes that passion is going to express itself in different ways.”
From Alex Cora:
Sale acknowledges himself he may have gone a little too far. More than anything you don’t want Sale getting hurt again. We’re talking about someone that’s made nine total starts since the 2019 season. The Red Sox need that horse again to be taken seriously as a World Series contender.
“It was all just frustration. I’ve gone months without walking five guys… Nothing’s wrong, I just have some things that I have to clean up,” Sale said in a postgame press conference. “I know exactly what I have to do. I knew exactly what I had to do and that’s why I got so frustrated.”
“When I was young, I made mistakes. I’m not going to shy away from it. I acted like an idiot last night. I’ve acted like an idiot before. I’d do it in the dugout and I’ve been told over the years, ‘Hey, take it to the tunnel,'” Sale added.
Don’t get the Chris Sale backlash on this one. If you’re someone that is upset about this, please reevaluate what matters in life. I want my baseball players to care. I want baseball to grow. Chris Sale did those two things today and that’s what matters.
More than anything, baseball just needs dominant Sale again. That guy hasn’t existed since he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019. Sale day used to be a thing. It was a must get my butt to a screen type stuff. All reports indicate that Sale is back and healthy again. That’s what Alex Cora says. Can we believe him?
